Bazon Brock - 90 Jahre in Aktion: öffentliche Führung Studioausstellung

Bazon Brock celebrated his 90th birthday on June 2. As a champion of the Fluxus movement and an “artist without a body of work,” as an art provocateur and the inventor of Action Teaching, Brock has made his mark on art history for more than seven decades. He has been inextricably linked to documenta since its inception, and soon also through his groundbreaking idea of visitor schools. In the 1960s, he began revolutionizing traditional guided tour formats in the art world by elevating “aesthetics as mediation” to an actionist practice in its own right.

To accompany the Brock Days in Kassel held in his honor, the documenta archive is offering, for the first time, a glimpse into the rich estate of the art theorist and “artist without a work.” Objects, films, photographs, and written materials explore Brock’s intellectual universe throughout the history of documenta. A special focus is placed on Brock’s actions and his legendary documenta visitor schools.
