- Fridericianum

On International Museum Day, museums all over the world open their doors – with free admission and a special program for explorers of all age groups!
The Fridericianum offers visitors a colorful program: Short guided tours of the current exhibitions, creative workshop stations, the performance Xoco está aburrido (Xoco is bored) by Mario García Torres and The Painting Game developed by Adam Harrison, which invites visitors to create their own work of art. It is followed by a public talk with the artist.
The International Museum Day is organized by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and coordinated in Germany by ICOM Deutschland e.V., the Deutscher Museumsbund e.V. and the museum associations and offices of the federal states.
Admission and all program items are free of charge. No registration required.
Please note: There will be no regular guided tours on this day.

Small masterpieces
11 am – 1 pm: Kassel spielt e. V. presents small, entertaining games in the Fridericianum rotunda that don’t require a lot of rules, but promise all the more fun: Play along!
More information on the association Kassel spielt e. V. can be found at www.kassel-spielt.de.
Happening: The Painting Game with Adam Harrison:
2–5 pm: In front of the Fridericianum Portikus, visitors of all ages are invited to play The Painting Game. This work of art in the form of a board game was developed by Canadian artist Adam Harrison. It invites its players to collectively contemplate the tasks suggested by a set of playing cards. Regardless of artistic experience and self-confidence in one’s own artistic abilities, the game immediately initiates the creative process and promotes a sense of community.
5.15 pm: Artist talk with Adam Harrison
The artist talk takes place in the function room on the ground floor.
Performance: Xoco está aburrido (Xoco is bored) by Mario García Torres:
11–18 Uhr: Xoco, a fluffy fellow with big round eyes, crops up again and again in Mario García Torres’ exhibition. As you observe him in the Fridericianum, one thing quickly becomes clear: Xoco loves being bored. On International Museum Day, you can meet Xoco in person in the Kunsthalle and watch him plod listlessly through the rooms, lean lazily against the walls, or lie on the floor in his own little world. Maybe by observing him, you can find answers to life’s fundamental questions.
The performance takes place on the second floor.
Puzzle booklet:
11 am–6 pm: With the help of small tasks, the exhibitions can be explored independently. There is a lot to discover: garden hoses gone wild, the bored Xoco, chains believed to be lost, and broken washing machines.
The puzzle booklet is available at the ticket desk throughout the day. Once they have completed the puzzles, participants are invited to pick up their own museum researcher diploma at the ticket desk.
