Untere Karlsstraße 4, 34117 KasselBazon Brock celebrates his 90th birthday on June 2. As a pioneer of the Fluxus movement and an “artist without a body of work,” as an art provocateur and the inventor of Action Teaching, Brock has made his mark on art history for more than seven decades. He has been inextricably linked to documenta since its inception, and soon after through his groundbreaking idea of visitor schools. In the 1960s, he began to revolutionize traditional tour formats in the art world by elevating “aesthetics as mediation” itself to an actionist practice.
Accompanying the Brock Days in Kassel held in his honor, the documenta archive is offering a first glimpse into the rich estate of the art theorist and “artist without a work”. Objects, films, photos, and written materials explore Brock’s intellectual universe through the history of documenta. A special focus is placed on Brock’s actions and his legendary documenta visitor schools.
