Freelance Grant Writer (m/f/d)

to join its fundraising team in support of documenta 16.

documenta and Museum Fridericianum gGmbH is a non-profit organization supported by the City of Kassel and the State of Hesse as shareholders. Its responsibilities include the documenta exhibition, which takes place every five years, the Fridericianum museum, the documenta Archive, and the documenta Hall.

The ideal candidate will be a wordsmith who brings with precision and care to their work, plus a passion for arts and multicultural community building. 


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing grant narratives for foundations, corporate philantropies, and government agencies
  • Researching information dossiers relevant to donors´ areas of interest and grantmaking style
  • Preparing accompanying project budgets with cost projections and compiling supporting materials for grant applications
  • Maintaining the donor relations portfolio via Microsoft Teams


Your profile:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English skills (at least C1 level) 
  • Superior writing and grammar skills, as well as a proven ability to deliver persuasive and succint grant proposals
  • Meticoulous attention to detail
  • Experience in institutional fundraising, grant writing, and audience development
  • Relevant professional experience with cause driven organizations with a thorough understanding of the non-profit fiscal structure
  • Knowledge of German and international philantropic trends is a plus

Reporting to the Director of International Fundraising, this is a free-lance position open to writers who work independently with measured time management skills.
