The magazine South as a State of Mind was founded by Marina Fokidis in Athens in 2012. Since the beginning of 2015, it has been the magazine of documenta 14 for a total of four special issues, edited by Quinn Latimer, Editor-in-Chief of Publications, and Adam Szymczyk, Artistic Director of documenta 14. The fourth and final special issue will be published in summer 2017. documenta 14's magazine was conceived from the outset as a place for research, criticism, art, politics and literature that would accompany the project during the years of preparation for the exhibition and help to formulate its concerns and objectives. In this form, South is less the discursive lens through which the themes addressed in the exhibitions would merely be announced, but rather a manifestation of documenta 14 itself. Writing and publishing, in all their manifestations, are an integral part of documenta 14 and the magazine serves as a mouthpiece for this process. In the online edition of South, texts from the print edition appear in three languages: English, Greek and German.
