The documenta Institut is an independent, non-university research institution that sees itself as a center for exhibition studies. The central assertion for this definition is: everything can be art if it is presented in the context of an exhibition. The documenta Institut presents itself as an international research center for questions relating to the exhibition of contemporary art and at the same time offers itself as a place of exchange on the art of our present. The Institut addresses local, regional and international publics with interventions and takes up the themes and concerns of contemporary art in formats of "public reasoning".
