Invitation: 70 years of documenta –
A family festival
Dear families, dear citizens,
dear friends of documenta and Fridericianum,

1955 Arnold Bode staged the first documenta art exhibition in Kassel.
That means documenta is turning 70 years old.
So far, documenta has been staged 15 times.
In 2027, documenta 16 will be open.
documenta is a special art exhibition.
During the exhibition, many works of art are shown
in different places within the city.
Works of art are, for example:
paintings or photographs,
statues made of stone or wood
or special events.

Arnold Bode opened the first documenta exhibition.
He was a painter and an art professor in Kassel.
An art professor is a person
who knows very much about art.
They usually work at an art college.
That is a special school
where people can learn more about art.
So far, documenta has been staged 15 times.
In 2027, documenta 16 will be open.

We would like to celebrate documenta’s 70th birthday with you
- in a colourful family festival.
A museum is a place
where people can see many interesting things.
For example:
Paintings and pictures,
statues,
old clothing
or old tools.
