Built in the classical style, the Fridericianum was founded in 1779 as one of the world's first public museums. Since 1988, it has been one of the most important international exhibition venues for contemporary art. Every five years, it is also the center of the documenta exhibition, which has been taking place since 1955. The event hall and the creative studio - the so-called Studiowerkstatt - are available for events.
