Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation/Kochi-Muziris Biennale (DBF-KMB) Award goes to Amol K Patil

documenta fifteen artist Amol K Patil is the first artist to receive the Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation/Kochi-Muziris Biennale (DBF-KMB) Award. The honor comprises an exhibition and lecture program lasting several years, initiated by the Hayward Gallery, the Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation, and the Kochi Biennale Foundation. The award also offers a South Asian artist a first institutional solo show in Great Britain.

Amol K Patil was selected on the basis of his installation The Politics of Skin and Movement, shown at the fifth edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. The installation questions the conditions of work, the caste system, and the body and is based on the artist’s family archive and the legacy of his grandfather, a poet as well as his father, an avantgarde dramatist.

For his first solo exhibition the artist will create a new iteration of his work, consisting of a constellation of drawings, sculptures, kinetic objects, and moving images.

The exhibition will run from October 9 to November 19, 2023 at the Heni Project Space in the Hayward Gallery in London, Great Britain.
