Gridthiya Gaweewong receives the 2025 Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence

The Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College (CCS Bard), has announced Gridthiya Gaweewong as the 2025 recipient of the Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence.

“Gridthiya’s curatorial approach, which subverts institutional narratives in lieu of artist-led and personal perspectives, embodies the innovative contributions to the curatorial field CCS Bard aims to recognize with this award” – to quote Tom Eccles, the Executive Director of the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College.

Gridthiya Gaweewong is Artistic Director of the Jim Thompson Art Center in Bangkok, Guest Curator at the MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum in Chiang Mai, and also an independent curator in her own right. She and Rirkrit Tiravanija were joint artistic directors of the Thailand Biennale in Chiang Rai 2023–24. Last year, as an internationally acclaimed expert on contemporary art, she was appointed to the Finding Committee for documenta 16.

The Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence was launched in 1998 and honors bold work, innovative vision, and dedicated service to the field of exhibition-making. The recipients are selected by an independent panel of leading curators of contemporary art, artists, and museum directors.
