Saturday, June 27, 2026 and Sunday, June 28, 2026, all day
This coming weekend, the Fridericianum is offering free admission to everyone due to the hot temperatures. Visitors can spend what has been the hottest weekend of the year so far in the air-conditioned spaces of the art museum, experiencing the current exhibitions or participating in public events.
The Fridericianum is currently showcasing works by photographer Catherine Opie—including portraits of the queer community, landscape series, and documentaries on political movements in the U.S. The ground floor features kinetic sculptures by Swiss artist Peter Fischli.
For visitors of all ages, the open studio workshop on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 11 am to 1 pm, offers the opportunity to get creative together. On Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 3 to 4 pm, visitors can explore Catherine Opie’s exhibition together with art educators from the Fridericianum.
The café at the Fridericianum, with its terrace and summery coffee specialties, also invites you to linger and enjoy yourself. Refresh yourself and your mind!
Andreas Hoffmann, Managing Director of documenta und Museum Fridericianum gGmbH:
“On this hot weekend, the Fridericianum is opening its cool rooms to everyone—with free admission. Whether it’s families with children taking part in our open events on Saturday or art lovers who’d like to join the free guided tour of the exhibition featuring photographic works by Catherine Opie on Sunday: The museum is a meeting place for everyone in this city. And anyone who simply wants to cool off is warmly welcome on the café terrace with ice-cold specialties.”
Moritz Wesseler, Director of Kunsthalle Fridericianum:
“Especially with midsummer temperatures, it’s clear once again: The Fridericianum is Kassel’s coolest art museum! Right now, the exhibitions by Catherine Opie and Peter Fischli refresh the spirit, while the cold drinks from the café and the air conditioning provide real relief from the heat. Just in time for the start of summer vacation, this weekend means free admission for everyone!”
