Manifesta 15 (9/8 – 11/24/2024) creates a new framework for social and environmental research, actions, and interventions. Selected participants hailing from the fields of art, science, law, architecture, human rights, activism, and education will explore three nodes in the Barcelona metropolitan region: along the Besòs River, in the Llobregat Delta, and in the Collserola Mountains. Working with local experts and communities, the research will seek to find new and alternative ways to highlight the climate crisis and pinpoint environmental and social changes needed in each region.
The collaborative initiative INLAND, among four other participating groups, has been invited to focus on a specific research project examining Catalan educational renewal movements. The project aims to shed light on how these historical movements have contributed to social change and what they can teach us today. INLAND will look at the history of schools, such as the Escola del Bosc built at the beginning of the 20th century featuring outdoor classrooms offering children a place to learn in nature.
The projects developed in this research phase will serve as a conceptual framework for an Open Call for local projects in September 2023.
