The focus of the twelfth edition of Momentum, curated by Tenthaus Art Collective, is to experiment with non-hierarchical models for the curation of biennials.
Practiced here is a method of collecting aimed at working from the artistic approaches of the participants, in order to subsequently highlight their commonalities. Through this practice, the curators aim to reach out to their entire ecosystem, both locally and internationally, so as to involve diverse actors who will realize a variety of art projects over the course of the biennial. Through this process, MOMENTUM 12: Together as to gather explores what intuitively emerges from the confluence of people, places, and times.
As part of an open, participatory process centered around local contexts, the members of the Tenthouse collective each invited one artist or collective.
The Indonesian educational platform Gudskul – consisting of the three collectives ruangrupa, Serrum, and Grafis Huru Hara – is likewise involved here. ruangrupa also invited Gudskul to documenta fifteen as one of fourteen lumbung members to play a significant role in shaping the exhibition.
Based on the idea of the Kassel ruruHaus, Gudskul initiated the GUDHAUS in Norway, which functions not only as a space for the exchange of knowledge and collaborative processes, but also as an archive for the collective’s interventions and projects. Outside, you will find the Gudkitchen, which was a communal kitchen for all residents at documenta fifteen in Kassel that became a central meeting point for friends, karaoke, and home-cooked food – thereby representing the guiding principle of nongkrong – “hanging out together.”
MOMENTUM 12 at Galleri F 15 on the island of Jeløya in Moss, Norway is still open to visitors until October 8, 2023.
