KW 36 – Kasseler Woche der Museen

September 1–6, 2020 will see the holding of Kassel’s Museum Week KW36 – Kasseler Woche der Museen. 45 cultural institutions will take part in this new twist on the traditional night of the museums format making it possible to experience the diversity of the Kassel art and cultural scene even in the age of the corona pandemic. documenta gGmbH will be participating along with the Fridericianum, the documenta archiv and the ruruHaus, as the first venue of the forthcoming documenta fifteen.

During its core opening times during KW36 the Fridericianum will host 45-minute guided tours of the Forrest Bess exhibition still running until September 6, 2020 commencing on the hour (Tuesday–Saturday: 3 pm, 4 pm, 5 pm, 6 pm; Sunday: 11 am, 12 noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm, 5 pm). In addition, special guided tours for children are offered at the weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 3 pm). Over the entire week Kassel’s pedestrian precinct will become the stage for a performance of It’s a Tragedy by the artist Laure Prouvost between 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday will see Hos Søstrene hold, amongst other things, a barbecue outside the Fridericianum serving tasty savory and sweet delicacies for you to enjoy (also vegan).

On its premises at Dock 4 the documenta archiv will be joining forces with the documenta forum and the foundation 7000 Eichen to present selected documents and films as well as photos by Kassel photographer Dieter Schwerdtle on Beuys’ activities in Kassel.

Friday, Saturday (both days at 3–7 pm) and Sunday (11 am–3 pm) ruangrupa and the documenta fifteen team will invite visitors into the ruruHaus (Obere Königsstraße 43, entrance from Treppenstraße) to explore, with local and regional initiatives and organizations as well as the local Kassel population, the practice of the nongkrong. The word nongkrong comes from Indonesian and roughly translated means “chatting in a relaxed setting”.
